About Us
One of the oldest Japanese prefectural associations in the United States, serving Southern California since 1909.
Over a Century of Community
Originally established in Los Angeles in 1909 by immigrants from Hiroshima Prefecture, the Hiroshima Kenjin-Kai was created to help members maintain cultural connections, support one another, and strengthen ties with their hometown in Japan.
Throughout its history, the Kenjin-Kai has organized community events, memorial services, youth programs, cultural exchanges, and charitable efforts benefiting both Southern California and Hiroshima.
Like many Japanese American organizations, the Hiroshima Kenjin-Kai was forced to suspend activities during World War II. Following the war, members rebuilt the organization and continued their commitment to preserving Hiroshima heritage and supporting future generations.
Today, the Hiroshima Kenjin-Kai of Southern California is one of the oldest Japanese prefectural associations in the United States — and a proud cornerstone of the Japanese American community in Los Angeles and throughout Southern California.
